unable to install plugins
Hi All,
I’m new to Txp. Whenever I try to install any plugin from the txp website (either through the base64 string or using the old textfile method) nothing is added to my plugins page or plugins database. Additionally, I don’t get any errors — but I don’t get a success page either — it loads my site like i had clicked the ‘view site’ tab.
Have I just missed a preference or something?

Make sure that your settings for your url and path are correct;, it needs to be exactly where you have it installed.

I double-checked the paths…they’re all right. I’m able to upload graphics and files without a problem, so I don’t think it’s a problem with the directory structure.

I know for a fact that the server runs apache, and I haven’t had any trouble with urls yet, so I’ve just ignored the pre-flight warnings.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I just hope I can get this resolved.

When you paste the plugin (not upload) in the textarea and try to install it, you should see the php sourcecode of the plugin – then have to scroll down and hit another red install button. Are you seeing this? Are you sure you’re not missing characters when poasting it?

I just tried to install the rss_suparchive plugin again to be sure I wasn’t missing any of the string.
When I paste it in the textarea and press ‘upload’, it loads what looks to my site, http://www.garrettmurphey.com/, but it’s loading from the textpattern root, http://www.garrettmurphey.com/textpattern/index.php (according to the address bar). I never see any source or the option to install.
When I upload via the old text-file method, it takes me to the source, but when I click ‘install’, it loads my site again from the textpattern url.

When you’re looking at the plugins page, before you attempt to install, what is the URL?

Is that the same as the URL that shows up in the browser status bar when you hover your mouse over the ‘plugins’ tab?

My guess is that there’s something quirky in your web server config that’s causing the rewrite rules to fail under some circumstances. Your diagnostics don’t show the web server name at all, which suggests it’s a heavily customized Apache install (if it’s Apache at all).
I’d suggest turning off clean URLs, and removing or renaming the .htaccess file. See if it works after that – if so, .htaccess is the culprit.
If that is the problem, you probably need a custom .htaccess specific to your server. There are some suggestions here:
