Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Destry, one thing that occured to me just now: could someone provide the raw screenshots for the explanations of the admin interface? Not with the numbers and all, just screenshots of the English-language interface.

I would have to change the interface to English and switch off various admin-side plugins which is a hindrance to starting in the first place. Someone using an ordinary out-of-the-box admin interface might contribute the screenshots witout much effort. I’d be more than willing to add the explanations to them.

Good point. Adding screen shots and header placeholders is a reasonable first step in many instances. However, in your case, Andreas, why not just start doing the same thing but for the German version of these pages. A true translation would need the German version of the images anyway, so it seems like a good path to take. To encourage you further, I’m knighting you the LGT for the German efforts in TextBook; you basically now serve the same role for the German authors, as davidm does for the French community. You’ve been around a long time, always give good input in the boards, I don’t think anyone would object—certainly not me. Welcome aboard.

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Destry or anyone who can – I’d like an account; I can add some stuff to the fact sheet at least.

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Can’t take care of your account until you provide me with an email address first, which is explained in the new User Accounts page of the wiki.

Everyone else, please do not request wiki accounts in this thread. Follow instructions noted above. Thanks.

As far as the fact sheet goes, it’s purpose may now be obsolete (and subject to removal) since TextBook is already linked from the textpattern.com. (The original idea was the Fact Sheet would serve as the first bit of info fromTextBook, but it appears Dean has moved ahead with linking to TxB outright, which is good.) You might focus on something else until that page is determined for certain.

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Destry, I’ve written something last night (“import subtab”) and have some suggestions:

First, I’m not very familiar with wiki editing so I missed a page where all the formating rules are explained.

Secondly, I found it strange the in the nav on the left there are no links to the main sections of the wiki, one has to call the main page to go somewhere else. Is this intentional or forced by the wiki software? I’d find it handy to have some more link there.

Apart from that, it’s fun ;-). I even got the screenshots up. To be continued…

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Agreed, both of these issues could be addressed more effectively, but let’s discuss these issues in the wiki rather than here. See the Community portal pages; probably the Wiki Organization page is most appropriate. Yes, in fact, there is a Wiki Navigation topic already started. And behold, Wiki Formatting too.

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Shit, I guess I fell asleep partway through the user accounts page.

“ Now that TextBook support multilanguages, and now that each language has a representative Language “Go-Tos” (LGTs) to coordinate individual translation efforts, it is necessary to address the appropriate person for establishing user accounts (assumingly not everyone will read/write English). Notify the appropriate LGT for the language you would like to establish an account for, if one exists (see list at Language “Go-Tos” (LGTs)). If no LGT exists for the language you need…”

which is kind of why I wanted to help in the first place. I guess I’ll go fill out forms in triplicate or something!

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Come on Daragh, it’s not that complicated !
If you want to contribute to the english writing effort, mail Destry, if it’s for french, just mail me :)

Now was that very complicated ?

I guess we could add the list of LGT on the users account page, might make it clearer…

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Daragh…I assumed you wanted to help with English contributions. Great. I can easily create an account for you, but I need an email address from you first; it’s required for the account, which is what I was hoping you would recognize from the User Account instructions…

- You will need to provide an email address to setup the account. The email will be manually added to your account preferences when your account is created. This enables the wiki system to automagically send you a new password should you forget what your initial password is.

Might I recommend no-doz. (just ribbing you)

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Let’s bump this thread, Destry is doing this thing almost by himself these days !

Anyone thinks documentation is important to txp ? Well, I do and I also think that it’s a slight thing to spend some time, we’re all using this great app to no cost, let’s not forget ;-)

COME ON !

Re: [wiki] TextBook Wants You !

Yeah I understand, I myself have sort of dropped the ball this past three weeks… I just wanted to keep things rolling, for those who would have forgotten ;-)
