Move textpattern over to another web domain.

I have installed Textpattern in a subdirectory of my current web domain. I have finally registered a new domain name andI would like to move TP over. Can someone give me advice as to how to go about doing this?

Maybe indicating what files would need editting (that call the DB).

TIA

Re: Move textpattern over to another web domain.

It is real easy. I initially had a few problems (see link at end) but simply put, here is what I did:

Dumped the MySQL database and saved as a text file.
Edited the resulting text file
Copied over all images to the new server.
Uploaded the edited text file via phpadmin.
Did a new install of textpattern at new host.
Recreated the settings in admin.

more info on the text editing: http://forum.textdrive.com/viewtopic.php?id=305

The only info edited was the .sql file. I found that it was interfering with cookies/passwords and I couldn’t get anything to work until I did it. Knowing me this was probably a half-assed method but it worked very smoothly. I have heard of others who didn’t need to edit anything. It does seem somehow important that you import your database before doing the TxP installation, why, I know not
Good luck in your endeavour.

ME:
Do we need to manually edit all the internal urls that point to the old domain so that it points to the new domain?

Internal urls… you mean permalinks? No, not unless you made them all by hand. Permalinks go by your url definition.

Hi Mary. I had my site in a sub dir. so i ended up having to edit all the paths of this type: homepageold.com/subdir/files, homepageold.com/subdir/images to homepagenew.com/files , homepagenew.com/images etc. I also edited the name of the db from myfirst_db to newdomain_db. then uploaded the sql file. see <a href=“http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=9542”> this </a>

Re: Move textpattern over to another web domain.

update. i thought it had all gone well. ….. but there is a slight problem. links to the Permanent articles do not work?! i hope there is an easy way to fix this? ;-). I looked at the sql file and i see the article tags but… not sure how to proceed.

<edit> I just added a new entry inb my new installation and it is there just fine, but when i go to link to the permanent article it is not found? ..
