Um, I hate Textile.
Am I the only one terribly annoyed by this inhumane text editor? More to the point, has anyone else implemented a different text editor with their TXP?

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
You can disable textile if you wish. It’s in the admin tab.
And Im sure there are others who dislike it. Personally I love it.

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
As text-to-HTML converters go, it’s pretty robust. Personally I prefer Markdown because it does a better job with dropping in raw HTML, but I don’t have anything in particular against Textile.

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
Writing HTML in a text editor has become so second nature to me that I can practically do it as easy as typing a letter; in fact things like textile and whatnot seem to just slow me down, not help me, as I’m always having to reference how to do something with the special syntax (though that’s improved quite a bit since being here). On the other hand, I can see how Textile (etc) is great for people who are not markup authors, such as the the bakery guy who you just created a TxP Web site for (for example).

I, as others here, prefer Markdown and use it in TXP with PHP Markdown
I also have implemented a WYSIWYG editor plugin for TXP

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
I tried this textile markup two days ago, just to see how it works.I haven’t been able to draw any conclusions yet, since my only concern was just to test different things.
The first problem that I ran into(on RC3 here) is whenever I wan’t to do something that is not a paragraph like h1. h2. h3. or list items
everything is wrapped in a paragraph tag.
For example:I want to make a header and type:‘h1.someheader’,
but instead in my markup I’ll get
<code>
<p>h1.someheader</p>
</code>
I can’t make any sense out of it.
How can I make Textile not to wrap everything up in paragraphs.???
May be I just overlooked thomething?

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
you’re missing the space that comes after h1.

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
I just tried that, bingo,Yeah, thanks Matt(Stupidity is allways a good method of learning,if you pay attention to it),I’ll explore on that further.
I mean yes,as Destry had mentioned it is probably more convenient for some poeple just to switch it off and to work plain mark up,but I think the main reason, why it’s there is for not so experienced content authors, and then in case htat you have let’s say poeple that can’t even handle textile(like me now,Ha@),this wonderfull notepad plug in came to our rescue.
As time goes by ,Im gettin more and more excited with textpattern,it seems that you can do anything you like with it.
(So there’s basically no need getting worried about wheather one likes textile or not)
It is like these compaq Pocket PC’s that can allmost be a coffee machine.

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
Textile isn’t that bad …. but a few changes would be fine! Like textile-in-textile.
This would be fine :)

I know what you mean!
It almost seems like Textile expects the user to at least have a knowledge of how html (and class and id tags for css) works. I don’t like the way it wraps images in <p>
tags (as well as other things) and the way I cannot turn images into links.
Its not overly bad tho.

Re: Um, I hate Textile.
The basic issue for me is still ,how TP can be deployed as a full fledged CMS tool from the your clients point of you, that means
that you will allways have a range of different users, authors, publishers.
from the MS Office spoiled (There are many who wouldn’t be able to manage textile)to the more experienced.
So you have to do something about it and give them some choices(And the ability to swich things on and off from the admin level)
I think that micampes Ideais probably one way to go
