Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

I’m quite new to Textpattern, infact, I’ve only produced one site with Textpattern so far. However, I’m now keen to start work on another site. My question is that, in your opinion, am I better off waiting for this new version or should I get on with the current version and upgrade later?

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

I think we are quite a bunch wondering exactly the same thing… 1.0 release has been awaited like the messiah but it’s not out yet.

I had a project in standby, I had waited a little but then I realized it would not be out soon and jumped on CVS to get RC3. I have started my project with rev254 and everything runs fine (plugins included).

I have never had any trouble upgrading, and in the worst case scenario always possible to re-install then restore the db.

Then again I guess release of 1.0 is not too far now. You could wait, but you don’t have to :-)

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

CVS stands for Concurrent Versions System, but TxP use SVN which also is a versionning utility to manage concurrent software version.

What will interrest you is this step by step tutorial on TextPattern.net on how to get RC3 from SVN

I always just follow the CVS version – it has not given me any problems yet … I’ve never tried anything as stable as TXP.

Just go to http://svn.textpattern.com/current and use some “getter-app” to download it all, then upload / overwrite via FTP.

… On Mac I use DeepVacuum…

If you’re hosted on Textdrive, there are some even easier options.

As for the wait for the final 1.0 release, we all know how it is with Textpattern and deadlines. As long as the SVN is moving along steadily we should be happy happy;-)

And I am;-)

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

I’ve been trying for two weeks now to figure out how to get the svn download to work with my OS X setup. I’ve read every forum post and website article I could find and followed everything word-for-word, but nothing seems to be working (the Windows tutorial certainly explains things a lot better than the OS X version: “svnX: download it… use it”). I’ve tried using svnX, the command line, even downloading the entire current CVS version file by file (four php files keep getting downloaded as html files, no matter what I do… are they supposed to be that way?), but every time I try any of the methods listed here I keep getting error messages that either the path is wrong or no such file or directory exist. I do have svn downloaded in my usr/local/bin/ directory, but I’m not sure what I should be doing from here on.

These are the different paths I’ve tried using:

http://textpattern.com/svn/repos/current
svn http://textpattern.com/svn/repos/current
http://svn.textpattern.com/current
svn://textpattern.com/svn/repos/current

Obviously I have no idea what I am doing and so I’m not going to ask a lot of dumb questions, but since I am right at the point of deciding whether to use TextPattern as my next blogging and CMS tool (the other two I am considering are Nucleus and b2Evolution.. I am using WordPress at the moment, but it can’t do all the things I am planning to set up) I am wondering if it would make sense to try to get Txp rc3 just to see how it works (I’ve already set up rc1 on my server). I don’t want to set everything up in rc1 if it just means redoing everything with version 1.0 if it comes out very soon. However, since a number of people have warned about using svn if you don’t know what you are doing, I also don’t want to mess up my system (if it’s possible). Then again you never learn anything unless you try something new, right?

I’m going to make one last effort here to try to get some advice on what I might be doing wrong, but if it’s not to be, well, I guess patience has its advantages, too.

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available

Number three (http://svn.textpattern.com/current) is the correct one.

No matter which method you use, you will download a certain number of “index.html” files. There is no file of that name anywhere in Textpattern itself, so they may all be deleted (and probably should be).

I’m afraid I can’t help you more than that, being a Windows user.
