;) so far i think the only big problem for me is that plugin txp:zem_link doesn’t work.. so i’ve not transported my other sites to RC3 yet… but other than that, it’s been happiness for me..
your instructions are at Textbook .. it looks really complicated, i know, but if you just select the appropriate instructions according to your OS, they actually break it down quite nicely — i was able to do it, so yes you can too. :)

alright, having a dumb issue … does anyone know how to get the .htaccess file to show up on the Mac so that I can copy it? Mac’s hide files beginning with a period by default.

It looks like Dean, Zem and Kusor are spending their free time during the weekends to work on TXP. ( note: Thanks guys. Really appreciate it.) They are probably too busy with work during the weekdays.
Amen. It’s a pleasure to work with txp. I’m trying to answer others questions a little more frequently than I have been.
So thanks to Dean, Zem, Kusor and the dogs (or are they miniature horses?).

the easiet way to ensure that you copy all files, is to copy the entire folder and then rename it.
To display the hidden files on the Mac, if you want a GUI, try Onyx. It’s a system tweaking and maintenance tool, very nice, simple interface. You can access it at

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available
rc3 is pissing me off. I had rc1 running perfectly. Diag is giving me this:
path_to_site is inaccessible: ?
/index.php is inaccessible ?
Image directory is read-only: /images ?
.htaccess file is missing ?
no_temp_dir ?
temp_dir_read_only ?
The .htaccess file is in the root directory, so I don’t know what the issue is there. The rest of it has me fairly confused. What temp dir? Why is the path (new.garthnewel.org) inaccessible?
Should I be posting my issues in a separate thread?
Detailed diag info:
Textpattern version: 1.0rc3
Document root: D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\clients\Virtual1\V1Garthnewel
$path_to_site:
Textpattern path: D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\clients\Virtual1\V1Garthnewel\textpattern
Permanent link mode: section_id_title
Temp folder:
Site URL: new.garthnewel.org
PHP version: 4.3.4
Register globals: 1
Magic quotes: 0/0
Locale: English_United Kingdom.1252
Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.0

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available
some of those diagnostic reports turn out to be red herrings when you first update a site — check the obvious (image dir 777, etc), then go view your site, then refresh the diagnostic page
it’s like a druidic ritual, have faith and your validation will await you

I’m getting a blank page for the site. Not even the default first post.

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available
remove the old placeholders, check you’ve got the one and true .htaccess file
and if that don’t work, try #textpattern irc

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available
placeholders are gone. I wiped the directory and cleared the tables in my database in an attempt to get this thing running. It’s just occurred to me that I think this project is hosted on a Windows server, which (I think) means that I can’t use the .htaccess file and will therefore probably have to use messy URLs, but that doesn’t explain my other issues.
The host is being strange and also insisting that 776 permissions on my ‘images’ and ‘index.php’ should do just as well as 777. Would this cause a hitch that anyone’s aware of?

Re: Txp 1.0 RC3 Available
I’ve migrated my issues to the Troubleshooting forum, as the Announcement board isn’t really the place for them. If anyone thinks they can help, I’d be very appreciative. The thread is here: http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=7160
Thanks.
