plugin architecture: RC3, 1.0 & onward
So I’m wondering what future development plans have been made with regards to plugins and admin interface hooks. It is my opinion that some hacks (such as Image Resize, QuickPik, Notepad, and Jon Hicks’ comments hack) should be able to be accomplished via plugins.
The main limitations in past versions have involved hardcoded chunks and a lack of ability to register callbacks. There was some talk earlier (started by zem, who’s now onboard) about this sort of integration. Are there plans on the table for adding anything like this post-1.0?

Just what I was wondering too! I really appreciate having the file upload thing going, just missing the automatic thumb creation thingie now..

Yes, they are available. Zem plans to give more details once he has time; first priority is reaching Milestone 1.0.
I would have moved my Notepad hack over to an admin plugin, but as of now only subtabs are available. I may make a Notepad Lite that consisits of only a public notepad, residing under Admin, but there are already so many subtabs under there as of RC3 I’m not sure it’d fit. Seems that the tabbed interface, while sexy, might not be feasible for much longer.
But for the most part, almost all the the things I listed above (only three weeks ago!) have been addressed with the subsequent revisions.

I would definitely like to make the quikpik menu into a true admin-side plugin.
Using the quikpik has really alleviated my frustration with the tabbed interface. The original version is a little less drastic than the more recent version so I wouldn’t mind something like the original showing up as a standard feature.
