Re: TxP + E-commerce
Well.
I just got back from a meeting with the client, and the launch has now been pushed back until at least Monday (grumble).
So I’m going to try to sit down and write up what I’m doing and post it to my weblog tonight or tomorrow… I’ll link it from here when it’s up. Then when the site actually launches I’ll post in the “Let’s See Yours, Then” forum so you all can go gaze at it in its beauty.
And Destry: I’ll also work on adding my notes to Textbook so people can go there to read up on it, too.

I’d really like to sell tangible goods through txp.. if ever possible. Ideas are welcome.
Textpattern is BY FAR a GENIUS expandable, yet VERY compact system, I like the simplicity of things and would LOVE (yes… love) to manage my shop in Textpattern.
As stated above, I’ve tried almost ANY (10+) open source ecommerce solutions. And I conclude that NONE comes even close to the brilliancy of Textpattern …
As an anecdote, I’ve done commercial identity websites with Textpattern 1.19 Gamma, and it FUCKIN ROCKS – nothing comes close to the brilliance I’ve experienced with Textpattern…
I have friends deeply involved in the development of Typo3, yet I’ve never quite felt comfortable with the majorius, superior, monstrous, Typo3 – But Textpattern, is like mini Typo3;-)
The Textpattern community made me get into XHTML + CCS PURE tableless design, and I can only say it’s been addictive. Haven’t used a table since Textpattern v. 1.14.
I would be the first to pay a donation for a Textpattern based shop add on … as much as I could afford …
A comapct shop solution, yet offering various payment options, and the possibility to sell tangible goods… For now it’s only a dream, but … I pray.
Textpattern… A mere feew kb of upload, and you’re with the best cms (yes: cms – not just blog) on earth…
A shop for Textpattern would seriously make me come in my pants.
Period.
.. And I KNOW many people agree…

Re: TxP + E-commerce
I’ve built a couple of stores using txp and osCommerce, and done some experiments with integrating the two (and later with Zen-cart).
Conclusion: it’s possible, and would make an excellent solution. It’s also a lot of work, and not likely to happen without funding.

Ray: I’ve got ‘em through zem_rewrite (site I’m building is not on RC3)… /section/category/product/ is the format I’m using.

To what extent have you integrated txp with zen cart?

ubernostrum – Did you get to go live yesterday? I’m interested to see how you set things up and how they went.

Re: TxP + E-commerce
zem: where are these osCom/txp combos at then? I have built a couple sites with osCom but I wouldn’t use it if I could find anything better – I certainly wouldn’t integrate it into txp as the accessibility is [checking] yup, still crap – MS3 is miles off by the look of it.
Isn’t it easier to just shove the product data into txp’s db? (For smaller stores) WHERE’S THE BEEF ubernostrum?! :)

Re: TxP + E-commerce
Whats the deal with OsCommerce anyway? Looks like they haven’t released a new version for almost 2 years.

Re: TxP + E-commerce
It’s not a bad package, it’s just suffering a lot because the development is backed up to buggery. There aren’t many people on the core team I don’t think. Poor old hpdl must be struggling a bit.
I don’t know what the next release will bring, I keep hearing things about xhtml/css but I doubt it personally. They’ve done a lot of work on the admin interface (good job too) that I saw a couple months back in the CVS version, but the catalog hasn’t budged a bit as far as I could tell. The main problem with it is the difficulty of restyling it, and that some of the stuff in there is bad…
I just want to have a little shop on the backend of txp now!! Although I’m off to install eZ3.5 again to try once more to make that work… it’s slow though…

wilshire – I was ordered to make some huge changes, so no. If you want to see the site in development, drop me an email and I’ll send you a link.

Harold, the developer of osCommerce (hpdl) seems to be rather … ehm … It’s like he is very very disappointed that some of the core developers left the project and started the main fork, Zen Cart, and his enthusiasm does not seem to get better now that Sparky, the next-most important developer left, left the project, because he got a real job… Messy situation…

Deadlines have been pushed so many timesw that Harold has don’t even wan’t to give any kind of estimates on the schedule… My own POV is that osCommerce suffers from bloated code, same situation as with phpNuke and the clones… Almost impossible to clean up, and once cleaned up, all the various contributions / modules, will not work at all.
It’s the opposite of a win/win situation… Better to just start from scratch and create something clean, beautiful, and modern…. Like TXP;-)

50 MB upload. Though a lot of the stuff can be removed later, as it’s not needed. ezP is powerful but daunting…
Inded a nice little shop in the back of TXP would be sheer power and joy;-)
Maybe Zem could manifest his new position as core developer by doing the job;-)

If you can fund him, I’m sure he will :)

Well, he created the dropcash-plugin, so if he sets the price he would want for the job, it could happen;-)
