Localization - German Translation
Hi,
I just translated the file “en-gb.txt” to German. It should’nt contain bad errors, if at all. I did it nearly completely without “Du”/“Sie” to avoid confusion, by using “man”. Only for “you_are_editing_css/div/form/page/” and “you_have_been_banned” I used “Sie”.
Minor problems:
- “Write”: “Publish”-Button too small for the german word “Publizieren”, I simply added this rule
input.publish {width: 70px; }
to “textpattern.css”
- “Plugins”: The “install”-Button for Plugins is not in the language file, exactly the same the heading “active”.
- “Prefs”: No translation of weekdays and months possible, no

Re: Localization - German Translation
Wouldn’t the use of the masculine form result in a more appropriate transcription of ‘a Cascaded Style Sheet’? “Der Style-Sheet” instead of “das Style-Sheet”?

Re: Localization - German Translation
Thanks std, great work. I have a web interface in development for submitting and amending translations. This will give us a headstart on the DE files, obviously.

Re: Localization - German Translation
Actually, I’m a native speaker myself, so I’m familiar with the problem of assigning gender to transcriptions of genderless nouns. I disagree, however, that most Germans would say “das Style-Sheet” by intuition – which is the reason for my post, pretty much ;). I’ve never known anybody to say “das CSS” – only “der CSS”. Thus my claim of the masculine form being more appropriate arose out of it being more commonly used, at least in my experience.
(Does anybody else think it’s weird for two Germans to discuss a German translation of TXP in English? :-)

Re: Localization - German Translation
I vote for “das” – “der CSS” seems very odd to me.
I use “das CSS” for both the actual CSS file and the more abstract concept of rules and selektors for styling.

Re: Localization - German Translation
“Das CSS” might work better for the more abstract concept of CSS, true. When talking about the actual file, however, it seems similarly odd to me.
I mean, I could probably live with it ;). It’s just something I noticed when I read through the translation, and wanted to bring up.

Re: Localization - German Translation
In any case, thanks for stepping up and doing a translation in the first place :-). Good job. I’ll make sure to stick around.
(PS.: Noch wer, der von dem Universal Resource Locator (URL) spricht? Nicht mehr allein im All … :-D)
