Re: rc2 and 1.0

To “celebrate” my one month anniversary since posting on this board, this spoiled ingrate is going to quote his first post verbatim as his concerns then are still equally as, err, concerning now, if not more so.

Not all of us are getting it for free. Some of us are supporting its development through Textdrive hosting. Others are contributing plugins and documentation that increase the value of TextPattern as a whole.

Now donâ

Re: rc2 and 1.0

It is posts such as the above that I believe al was referring to in his post that so closely echoed one I made on page 13 (it got broke!).

duffe complains of a lack of news but both Jason gave us an update less than 48 hours ago. What do you want? Some cheese with your whine? A webcam? He complained of not finding a stable release. Duh! That is what we are waiting for duffe! 1.0 being beta tested? What do you think we have all been doing for the last year? It has clearly been stated that the ‘TXP crew’ are working on security issues. Would it be wise to advertise them here? That don’t sound like zip to me.

Ray, I hope you don’t think this is a ‘Mother Hen’ type post. I am sure that Al’s post, much like my earlier one, was based upon seeing entries like the previous and then feeling the need to vent. bleveck, do you see his point now? It ain’t the tongue in cheek, sarcastic, completely off topic and humorous posts that provoke us chickens.

I’ll leave it at that, I have some eggs to go sit on………

Re: rc2 and 1.0

If you find Al’s post all that provocative, Boogenstein, you might be just a tad overly invested in the Textpattern Team Spirit. If you find it so necessary to vent, then at least recognize the next guy’s right to ask things like “why haven’t we been told what new, untested features might appear in 1.0?”

Not everyone is blessed with perfect faith in the Second Coming of Dean, and not everyone has bought into the chummy vibe of the TextPosse as much as you and I have.

A word to the TextZealots out there – the next time someone says “Gee, this sure doesn’t seem like a professionally-managed software project — maybe I can’t count on the product to deliver, and maybe I shouldn’t waste my time building on it,” don’t call them whining ingrates — just sit back and wait for the product to prove them wrong.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

Apparently better, built-in clean URLs are in 1.0, per Jason’s comments in the Textdrive weblog.

Oooh – so they are, ubernostrum. That’s nice. In fact, that’s probably just what I need for my new website. Hurrah for new stuff in TP1.0!

Oh well, Mustn’t Grumble.

The suspense of waiting for 1.0 with clean URLs has driven me to look for a different and better CMS that’s still simple to use, clean and elegant. There isn’t one*. So I’m here, waiting and cheering-on the developer(s?). Have you ever seen a group of kids getting excited and fractious before a much anticipated party? That’s what it sounds like in here – in the best possible way.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

Boogenstein, what Jason said was:

“dean, kusor and zem should be done soon. just some final discussions and feature checks.”

That’s not an update. What Jason said tells me nothing. What’s “soon”?

When “later this week” means “not even 6 weeks later” in TextSpeak, what does “soon” mean? In time for Christmas? In time for TXp’s 2nd annivesary on 14 Feb 2006?

Come on! You can’t call it an “update” when it tells us less than nothing and when it doesn’t come directly from Dean himself.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

I just got a bit of an eye-opener. For those not hosted on TextDrive or for anyone who doesn’t visit the TextDrive forum on a regular basis, I’d encourage you to read the entire thread of which this entry is a part.

Note that yesterday’s onslaught appears to have begun around mid-day and continued in some ways until the wee hours this morning. Finishing and releasing a secure open source (free) application is tough when the service that pays your bills is under attack.

As a point of reference, I note that the TextDrive forum has 804 registered users as of the time I’m writing. The Textpattern forum has 4201 registered users. I suspect many of us have been unaware of just what they’re going through in the hosting business these days!
