THAT SCREENSHOT IS VERY VERY OLD. IT IS NOT TEXTPATTERN 1.0. IT IS A TWO YEAR OLD BETA VERSION. It was the backend for pages like this one
THERE ARE NO SPIGOTS

Ha!
You see, that’s what I get for being a late adopter — I’m not up to speed on the txp history.

Re: rc2 and 1.0
I guess I was a relative late comer (gamma 1.19 if I remember). I wonder why Dean ditched the “select a layout” feature… It seems like it would have been neat, and very attractive to new users/ non web designers.

Re: rc2 and 1.0
Because the beta to gamma was a complete rewrite and a mass migration to the database. The gamma was so much leaner and meaner in terms of PHP, it’s not even funny. Back then there was an “automatic” or “manual” mode, and essentially what you saw gamma was the temporary abandonment of the the automatic “select a layout” feature. I just think it went on a bit a hiatus. See the betas were put out by a designer, and the gamma was released by a programmer and I expect the two to be back together.

Re: rc2 and 1.0
Fascinating… someone should do a history of this thing’s making one of these days.
edit: I mean the whole textpattern textdrive story… not just the development cycle

Well, Dean was a well-known “blogger” and txp was one of the first hand-rolled blogging systems written in PHP that was going to be out there. Time-wise there’s this
{holy shit, is Ray even commenting on that thread?? Notice that was back in the days when you could comment on Textism.com and a version of textpattern was alredy driving the site}.
Another example, the pre-gamma release CSS thing showed up in Web Design on a Shoestring

I was refering to the “better have native clean URL support and let me get rid of that damn ID number”. But maybe I was getting ahead of myself.
{edit… whoops… wrong color}

Re: rc2 and 1.0
Take your time. Release it when you feel good about it, not when we want it. The complaints would be double if Dean released something that wasn’t as solid as what we’ve grown to expect from TXP and Textdrive.
Cheers,
