Anyone using MarsEdit could give me some pointers?
I’m running some tests on our MetaWeblog (RPC) integration and have installed MarsEdit. I like what I’ve found so far, but have a few queries about it. Anything to save me prodding endlessly in the dark!
1. Configuration: Do I use the MetaWeblog API system API? Some people have mentioned on this forum that they’ve chosen the MovableType API, but maybe that’s out of date now? (the posts are old)
2. How do I successfully configure and save custom field data when editing a post? In the Custom Field config area, no amount of messing with the MarsEdit label and/or the Server Field Name seems to result in it storing the data. How do I successfully marry the MarsEdit label and our custom fields? Do I use our custom field name? Its title? Or custom_1 or custom1, or the full DB handle including prefix? Does it handle spaces okay? Maybe that’s the issue? And I don’t know the internal names of the MarsEdit labels to know what value(s) to use in the config panel. Is there a list of available fields somewhere?
3. Image handling: When editing a post, I can click Media, select a folder, select an image, fill in data and either Upload With Post or choose Insert. Both options seem to insert the <img> tag in the post itself. What I’d really like to do is to have the option (somehow) to upload the image to the Images panel (as it does now) but put the resulting Image ID in the Article Image field. I’ve tried exposing the ‘Image’ column via the Custom Field config but haven’t had any luck yet making it work (however, see point 2 above, which may have a bearing on it).
If there’s some way to tweak our API code so if (say) there’s an “Article Image” custom field defined then it’ll divert the uploaded ID into that field, that’d be amazing. But I’m not sure what the capabilities are and how much access we have to the data in transit to Textpattern (because the ID will only be known after it’s been uploaded and an ID has been generated, which may be too late to save to the database).
If anyone has any tips and tricks on using MarsEdit to manage their site, I’d be hugely grateful. And if there are any missing pieces that you really wish it could do, I may be able to squeeze them into the API, depending on what the MetaWeblog API exposes.
