Ideally, com_connect should use the core lAtts() function, to be consistent with future changes. I will try to take a look at it when time allows.

It would be amazing if it could. From memory the only reason it doesn’t is because it permits extra ‘global’ attributes that are handled across tags (although a few are excluded in certain tag situations because they don’t apply to things like file inputs).

It might be better to do something similar to the image tag and pass through any attributes that aren’t explicitly handled, if that’s possible, and just “forbid” (remove) a few that don’t make sense on a tag by tag basis.
