RFC & vote: retire our x.com (Twitter) presence

Textpattern CMS has a presence / account on x.com, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

We are considering retiring the account and subsequently removing links to the aforementioned account. Forum links to other x.com content will not be affected.

At the present time, the x.com account is used for release announcements, occasional site / forum downtime notifications, and…not much else. The account is occasionally @‘d for other tweet mentions, but that traffic is typically very low.

In short: from our perspective, it’s not a well-used account and doesn’t add much (or any) perceived value. There is a school of thought that having an x.com account can detract from brand value, and this could be considered.

What should we do?

This thread is for the discussion of potentially retiring our x.com presence. Your feedback is appreciated.

Please consider a ‘+1’ (in favour of retiring), ‘0’ (no opinion), or ‘-1’ (against retiring) vote so we can get consensus.

Thank you.

Can we move those announcements to another platform?

Instead of deleting our account, we can just pin a post stating that from now on, all txp announcements will be on https://indieweb.social/@textpattern. Having said that, it would be good to maintain a presence, if not on X, in another mainstream social platform.

Yes – the account will be retired not deleted / removed. I’m cleaning up some of the old-old forum & server maintenance posts from years ago, but the bulk of the posts will remain in-place with a pinned post directing folks to a maintained channel / platform (likely Mastodon).
