Rich text still a thing?

Given the way the web is going (AI, broken search, and all), is rich text now passé? Wondering if I should start ripping out all the schema/rich-snippets junk.

Re: Rich text still a thing?

I’m still using them on some sites to satisfy Google merchant et al, on what various parts of the page “mean” semantically for product-based content.

AI tools are not currently trained on real-time data. They’re trained on snapshots of the web before each “release” of the LLM, so I suspect search engine spiders still need rich text to get explicit directions on what’s what.

Until the spiders can interpret pages in more semantic manners and make a good job of it, you’re probably better off keeping the schema junk around.

Re: Rich text still a thing?

Guess I’ll leave it for now. I block the LLM training crawlers, which at some point may break google search. Not sure I care any more.
