Maintenance: `triton` server - 3 March 2026
I am making some changes to our triton server. This will affect:
plugins.textpattern.com
textile-lang.com
textpattern.com
textpattern.org
themes.textpattern.com
I expect this work to be 1-2 hours from the timestamp of this post.
I have good music on and some caffeinated beverage, so it might be notably quicker.
Please stand by for updates.

Ironically, making it when I was barely awake at 06:30 wasn’t the wisest move as I used the wrong measure and it’s come out about twice as strong as I was expecting…

tl;dr: Perc – ‘Bassiani Invites Perc’
I am of an era & demographic where my formative years were spent listening to fast, machine-made music on crunchy speakers in grimy warehouses & clubs. I latched on to The Prodigy in ’91 when they were relatively unknown, that turned into a journey of European techno, breakbeat and trance during a large part of the 90s. A lot of my paper round money was spent on rave & jungle tape packs, and many of those were played to the point of wearing out. I have fond memories of my Sony Walkman powered by a single AA battery and ear buds.
Much of what I listened to in the 90s is still on my radar, and I’m a regular listener to the Underground Bass (Radio Links -> Listen Live) which became the spiritual successor to Kool FM when it brand was acquired by Rinse – that really affected me…this grass roots ‘thing’ that I’d been listening to for hours each day was snapped up by a bigger beast, and it wasn’t the same. There’s a meme in some UK agencies that the typical radio station played in the office has to be 6 Music – my office is an outlier in that respect…nothing against 6 Music, it’s just not my thing.
I like grimy, thump-y, repetitive music when I’m doing server work against the clock, and I tend toward long-form mixes. The work on triton was to repair a broken database server (see here for background), and I was confident I could get it done in an hour as it was largely procedural and autopilot:
- Ensure and verify offsite backups of all databases.
- Remove all traces of MariaDB.
- Install
Oracle MySQLPercona Server 8.0. - Recreate previous databases from configs and backups.
- Bring each site online.
- Verify backup schedule is working.
My go-to mix for that hour of work bout was Perc – ‘Bassiani Invites Perc’ – which is technically a podcast, but without any jingles, VPN ads, or other drivel. It’s 59:27 of 144bpm gritty techno by a dude who thrives in dark clubs with no poseurs.
I have a stack of 1 to 2 hour mixes that I know inside out, those are typically my first choice for defined work with constraints…there are no surprises, I can focus on what I’m doing, and get the job done. They’re 140bpm at the slow end, 174bpm at the top end, and all sorts of madness in-between.
Selected works for other work bouts with lower pressure levels / constraints:
- For Those I Love – ‘Into A World That Doesn’t Understand it, Unless You’re From It’ (~45 mins, vocal / conscious / spoken word)
- William Basinski – The Disintegration Loops (~5 hours, tape loop / liminal / drone)
- Kruder & Dorfmeister – K&D Sessions (~2.5 hours, laid back electronic)
- The Wardown trilogy [1 / 2 / 3 (~3.5 hours, intelligent drum & bass with life-affirming and harrowing undertones)
- Anything by Fanu, Skee Mask, Djrum, Murcof, The Black Dog, Nils Frahm, Burial, Filmmaker, Rival Consoles, Iglooghost, Lorn, Snakes of Russia, Northern Electronics and a whole host of other labels / artists.
