Re: RFC: Textpattern 5 ideas & feature requests
The ability to change the author from the article page. This can currently be done from the articles list panel, but not ‘in the edit’.
The ability to toggle comments on / off from the article page. Bonus points: option to override global comment lifespan and set an article-specific custom start / end timestamp for comments.

Jools has a tiny plugin for this. It would be easy to add to core but there are a few considerations. Only for Publishers, right?

Must admit I’ve not looked at the comments functionality for ages. I thought there was an on/off switch there alongside the overridable comment message, but maybe not.
I’m conscious of overstuffing the write panel, especially for comments which are arguably side-functionality (I’d love for it to be an optional module rather than in core).
Who knows, maybe comments can be re-tooled as UCFs so people can extend them more easily. The tricky part is anti-spam measures and moderation, both of which are exclusive to comments. I’m not sure custom fields can handle that, although I did start work on adding constraints for all custom fields, so we may be able to leverage that.

Thanks, Bloke. It’s not something I personally have had to do since I tend to run single-tenant sites, but it came up in a discussion last week with a straightforward three-person client who use articles as events and the article author as the main contact for each event. The request came alongside write panel “prev – next” navigation, but we’ve covered that before.

The jcr_write_tab_author plugin works well. I’ve had it running on a site for ages, and it’s a tiny addition. For earning client brownie points, that’d be my go-to.

Hehe, there’s jcr_writenav_buttons for that. Your client might find Robert’s wet_quickopen more useful, though. That gives you a supercharged “recent articles” pane.

Publisher + Managing Editor ? I always understand the latter to be in charge of every day affairs (for small teams both roles might be one and the same though).

There is a on/off toggle and a comment invite input field. The life-time is controlled by the global setting though. That is OK with me, if needed comments can still be reenabled, I think. Screen grab: dev.l-c-n.com/_b/comment_options.png

+100 on this being an optional module. The Write tab is already very packed and nearly over-stuffed as is. Maybe an option for (a) additional CF?
