thumbs on Twitter

Just a heads up that the txp logo does not appear in our posts on Twitter/X. It might have to do our security headers.

Re: thumbs on Twitter

I don’t see any images for that post either on x.com. Strange…

Re: thumbs on Twitter

I’ve resized the OpenGraph image to the recommended resolution and forced a cache purge, so it should now use the preferred image. No idea if this is what’s choking it, but at least it’s now to-spec.

Re: thumbs on Twitter

The <meta name="twitter:image" content="image_url"> tag required by X to fetch images appears to be missing from the source code of textpattern.com/weblog/textpattern-490-released-php-85-mysql-84-features-fixes-fine-tuning-and-much-more.

Re: thumbs on Twitter

Nothing has changed our side as far as I know, but I’ll raise an issue to track it – thanks very much for the report, colak.

[I can attempt to answer this, but it’s my 2 cents and not the official project line.]

Textpattern reportedly joined Twitter in 2010, and it was a very different place then. There are around 800 accounts that follow the Textpattern account, and they have their own reasons for doing so. This is a considerable number in Textpattern terms.

The Textpattern account appears to largely be used for release announcements, the occasional notice of service interruption, and the account is tagged sometimes when security issues are reported on.

I personally do not use the Textpattern account for anything other than release announcements and occasional service interruptions / status reports (the latter is usually me instigating, so it tracks that I use it for that purpose).

If there is to be a migration away from X, we need to consider a few things:

  • Having something in place to alert interested folks to new releases.
  • We have a considered statement as to why we’re migrating away.

If we ask the X users / followers whether they would be affected if we migrated, I suspect they would mostly say ‘yes’. If we ask the forum users the same, they would likely mostly say ‘no’. If we ask the Mastodon users, they would also likely be ‘no’, with a sprinkling of ‘one less X account, hurrah!’.

What to do?

Re: thumbs on Twitter

I totally disagree with the X policies and politics but I totally agree with Pete and it is the reason our NGO is still there. Having said that, it is our only social media account that lost followers in the past year.
