Using https, but images served as insecure

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve added https to my site, zuiker.com, then upgraded to Txp 4.9, then switched to a new server with my webhost (Opalstack). At some point in this, my search page stopped working and I started to see errors associated with images, e.g.,

Mixed Content: The page at 'https://zuiker.com/hall-pass' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure element 'http://zuiker.com/images/161.jpg'. This request was automatically upgraded to HTTPS

I don’t see anything in my forms or pages that explicitly call for images to use http://. The diagnostics for my site show no errors. My article form uses <txp:article_image class=“full-width” /> to pull in an associated image.

Where should I be looking to troubleshoot this?

Re: Using https, but images served as insecure

Hmmm, if you view source of your search page after performing a search, you’ll see a bunch of other links that are prefixed http:// (not just images – I searched for the word “sugar” btw). So either these links are hard-coded in your templates / articles, or it’s still not resolving the protocol properly.

A few places to check:

  1. Your .htaccess file(s) in case there’s something that forces http:// in there.
  2. Your config.php file. Is there anything besides the default 7 rows regarding database connectivity details? Anything that overrides hu or ihu or PROTOCOL?

Failing those, try adding this line to config.php:

define('PROTOCOL', 'https://');

then refresh your site pages.

Re: Using https, but images served as insecure

If you don’t have it installed, smd_where_used for finding anything in your articles / forms / pages.

It could simply be that you used the tagbuilder on the images tab to insert your images (the “tag” column). That copies absolute URL’s.

Yes, this was it. I found that I had used full urls for a few images in some of my articles. I’ve fixed those and the errors are gone. I’ll install the plugin to clean up more.

But, search still doesn’t work, so that’s clearly an unrelated issue that I’ll need to explore tomorrow.
