Re: Feedback: Textpattern CMS 4.9.0 released
(I clicked on a few links starting with the 4.9 announcement and encountered an “UPGRADE.txt” link that went to a github “INSTALL.txt” file instead. I am now frustrated that I can’t find the page with that link again after losing the browser tab.)

Try reloading the article, I changed a stray link in the last few minutes.

not sure where you clicked. But when you are logged in on a site via admin the link to download the 4.90 takes you to this page
from there download the desired file.
I have not yet upgraded am existing site, and plan to that later today on a couple of less crucial sites.
Installation of a new 4.9 went smoothly ..

Just upgraded two sites to 4.9. Took 5 minutes and no problems. Smooth like butter.

did you back anything up or did you simply add the new package, renamed the old to textpatternOLD and then pointed to yr site?

I had a recent backup, so I did not make a new one. Backups would probably have made it take 10-minutes.

I just finished updating 3 sites … As Dean Allen used to say: Halitosis be dammed … I went full steam ahead, no backups.

Do you have a script on the new server to run a backup that compresses the DBs and also dates them so I can have a monthly copy? My Current script doesn’t work on the new server.
For example , I wish to have backups sometime like this:
/home/bici/backups/backups/tofufoods_txp.opal3.opalstack.com.01-11-2025.gz
/home/bici/backups/backups/tofufoods_txp.opal3.opalstack.com.01-12-2024.gz
/home/bici/backups/backups/tofufoods_txp.opal3.opalstack.com.01-12-2025.gz

Re: Feedback: Textpattern CMS 4.9.0 released
A Big thanks to the Devs, near devs, and others, for all the great work on this new version. One site to go, and all has been very smooth so far. Congratulations lads!
Notes:
One update complained about the RPC folder, so I uploaded the recent version and all was fine again.
I don’t recall this for past updates, but with 4.9 , Pages and Articles Preferences for all sites had Allow PHP turned on, and diagnostics advised me to turn those preferences off.

Re: Feedback: Textpattern CMS 4.9.0 released
Is that intentional that the prefs.json and textpack.txp were deleted out of the core themes (Hive and Hiveneutral) just prior to release ?
On a default install, with the default theme you upload an image, a thumbnail is created automatically but it has the same size as the full sized image.

The warning is new. It retains your settings during update (new installs have those prefs off by default) but advises you to turn them off unless you know you’re using <txp:php> tags in your site somewhere.
