Re: Comment Modules

I am waving the white flag…I just don’t get it. Obviously it’s my problem but I guess I am too used to working with other CMS’ and do not understand the language and modules that make up this one. While I think I can follow directions pretty well, once I try to do anything on my own I am lost at sea.

I wanted to thank everyone that provided assistance. If at some point I get better at coding, perhaps I will come back and try again.

Re: Comment Modules

We are all experimenting on different levels and sometimes forget the basics. The demo site is always of help as it demonstrates how tags (including comments) are working. There’s many times I’ve hit walls, and most of those was because of the way I approached my coding. The demo site guarantees that you will be having a fresh install every 3 hours in order to revisit the original code but also test your own snippets.

The templates Marie Poulin produced are quite bare bones and are designed to illustrate the principles. I’ve tried to change as little as possible. It does mean some things are hard-coded (like copyright message, menu sections etc.) and it’s not responsive. That means you must supply images in the correct sizes or the layout will break. Nowadays you’d do that differently using css flexbox or css grid. If you want to use my test images (simple flat-colour and labelled images), you can download them here.

Jacob thanks for the theme, which makes the process easier and is using current Txp tags.
Indeed one of the issues is that Marie’s description are less than clear and not as complete as they should be. There is some crucial information missing that could prove to be confusing for beginners or folks new to Textpattern. Having your theme MariePouiln provide the correct structure makes following her tutorial somewhat easier .. albeit there are some major gaps.

Using the Theme and trying to update the Poulin Tutorial so that it is more complete I will attempt to produce a revised and more up to date tutorial that might help new comers to TXP.
