LLMs: useful tools and/or Orwellian control?
Have many of you used an LLM (any flavour; I hear the Chinese ones are excellent) as a production aide?
I was sceptical at first, but lately find it indispensable, developing solutions in an hour or two instead of days. I typically develop a design idea and struggle to code it up if it involves js or php; I used to end up with a compromise, but now can focus instead on refinements instead of the basics.

I guess you know of the environmental impact of the prompts?
I avoid them except for image upscaling, image expansion, and image to video. All for promotional purposes of our org. Never upscale any archival old photos as the AI adds artefacts that alters them.
DeepSeek has a good reputation, as well as KIMI for coding, but I don’t trust any AI because of the biases, so when I use them, I do so sparingly. Custom trained AIs, such as feminist, post-colonial, etc, are better but understandably very limited in their scope.

Using an LLM, even once, leaves a permanent mark on your soul that can never be washed off. I am saving myself for that two-bedroom condo in heaven.

Love that phrase “cognitive dissidence”.
I don’t do any large scale problem solving at the scsle of “make me an app …” or “build me the fuctionality…” but I will occasionally consult Github copilot etc. to help solve a more specific problem or answer a “how do I get this into that”. The answer is generally well-reasoned and the problem of a small scale so I can follow it and I don’t see a risk of bias there. Haven’t noticed a permanent mark, either …
