Importing from Typepad / Moveable Type?
It was bound to happen, venerable blogging service Typepad is closing the shop with 30days notice (see e.g ArsT article)
Question? Is it possible and feasible to import a MT site into Textpattern?
(One I have in mind as been around since ~2004 with thousands of articles and hundreds of hundred thousands of comments)

Re: Importing from Typepad / Moveable Type?
That’s sad news.
If you (or someone) can get me a sample database CSV file (or SQL file? XML file? Whatever export format is available), I can look into it. I don’t have a generic importer plugin written yet (it’s planned…) but we may be able to supply a page template or some instructions that people could tweak to import their content. Or can we leverage etc_post?
Not sure how feasible it is to import layout and css and stuff. Worth a try.
It would be nice to welcome some new users to Textpattern, so if we can quickly put together some sort of workable importer, one of us could put a blog post together and post on their forum with an invite. Maybe?

Ok, I’ll ask. Hope he has time and all.
Checking through some other contacts who hosted on Typepad in the past but most seem to have moved on to other spaces.

Re: Importing from Typepad / Moveable Type?
On typepad.com, it says the export is in Moveable Type Import Format.
I don’t know how well that corresponds to the MT import that used to exist in txp 4.4. There used to be another dedicated plugin txp_mt_import_05.txt
but I can’t find it.

If we get the data, we should be able to import it into txp. But, if I get it right, Typepad also provided hosting services, which we don’t.

It’s an option to resurrect that code and tweak it for today’s Txp. But if we can get the data into XML format somehow, it should be a cinch (minus images and files which will need some specific wrangling) to do new TXPImport()
and let it loose.

Hmmm. I wonder if it’s in the txplosion that I have lurking on my laptop somewhere? It might be in a repo too. Can’t remember where it is, but it probably exists somewhere.

I wondered that too. Result: No, it’s not.

Typepad is shutting down on Hacker News.
