Spamhaus listing

My comments form isn’t displayed (presumably just for me?) at the bottom of articles on my website. Instead I see:

your_ip_is_blocklisted_by sbl.spamhaus.org

Not sure why that string’s not translated (EDIT: patched) but sure enough, I’m on their database.

On the spamhaus site, I clicked through and read this:

If you are not using normal email software, BUT instead are running a mail server AND you are the owner of a Static IP address in the range A.B.0.0/16 AND you have a legitimate reason for operating a mail server on this IP THEN you can automatically remove (suppress) your static IP address from the PBL database.

Am I okay to proceeed or is it a waste of time? I’m not actually running a mail server but I’m not sending stuff out via SMTP. I’m still using PHPMailer internally on Txp 4.9.0. And this is for the comments form not com_connect.

Advice welcome.

EDIT: I’ve just moved to a different location, got a different IP and still see the message. Checked this new IP and it’s also on the list. shrug

I’ve deleted the spamhaus check in Prefs and the issue’s gone but… is that the best option?

Re: Spamhaus listing

Are the IPs supplied to you by your host? You may need to get in touch with them.

Re: Spamhaus listing

One of them is mine (it’s static). The other was a random one in a house I happened to be visiting. Both using the same service provider though.

Recommended to proceed. The process is a piece of cake, and often fully automated. You may have to show you’re not running anything shady, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

The paradox of not running a (public) mail server in the traditional sense but genuine email is coming from the IP may well be the trigger.
