But if one has this possibility (subdomain), can we make it work?
Bloke wrote #338565:
The multi-site installation offers support for an admin side URL variable, so we could probably tweak that to allow separation of the two areas if that variable is set in the config file.
Yes, with the multi-site installation, the paths are /admin
and /public
with config.php in a separate /private
directory (see here). You can assign the /admin
and /public
(webroot) paths different subdomains, and then specify this in config.php as admin_url.* This then sets the internal variable ahu to the admin URL instead of hu. '/textpattern/'
.
Note: the txp_login
cookie remains attached to the domain name (without subdomain) so that it is accessible on the public side for txp:if_logged_in and plugins that leverage that.
It works well, but it does require that users set up an additional subdomain.
*I’ve just noticed that this got removed in the latest file sync in 4.9-dev. I’ll do a test installation and then provide a PR.

Thanks for confirmation, an admin subdomain looks better security-wise.

Isn’t it rather txp_login_public
cookie on the public side?

That was me – mea culpa. I’ve restored from previous and tweaked formatting slightly. Testing still welcome!

No problem. I just tried this out locally, and it works in 4.9.
