I’m adding to this thread as, beyond links, I had other issues with horizontal scrolling which I resolved with <wbr>, as explained on codersblock.com/blog/deep-dive-into-text-wrapping-and-word-breaking/. I opted not to use hyphenation as ­ looks like a hyphen, and it is very confusing in cases like email addresses or non linked urls.
