Need Assistance : Function get_magic_quotes_gpc() is deprecated

Hey Textpattern Family !!
My name is yvette. Need your assistance getting two sites back online.
My first problem was accessing the password which kept giving me an incorrect
password error. Checked the config.php file so know the password is correct.
Second issue after a Host update was “ get_magic_quotes. “ Error.
Followed threads for Function get_magic_quotes_gpc() is deprecated
In the forum . Tried changing the password on the Host platform and that
led to blank / white screen.

You need to know that my HTML/CSS skills.are intermediate and am not
a developer. If you can help please keep things simple for me. Appreciate
any assistance. Thank You

Logged into Host database – changed passwords hoping for access with new password but afterwards received the error message below. Both sites down Blank / white-with error messages and data base unavailable

Hi Yvette and welcome,

The error messages you are seeing likely mean your host has updated their server PHP version but the version of Textpattern you are using is quite old. The current version of Textpattern already resolves that error, so you would need to upgrade to the current version of Textpattern.

The password problem is something else. The password you need to login to Textpattern is different to the password needed to access the database. It sounds like you have changed the database (user’s) password and Textpattern can now no longer access the database and replies with “Database unavailable”.

In your host’s file editor and check the file /blog/textpattern/config.php, which as you mentioned contains the database password. Update that to match your newly set password and you should see the “broken” site as before.

To reset the password to login to the admin area of Textpattern, there should be a “Forgot password?” button that sends you an email to reset the password.

Generally, before doing an update, it’s a good idea to take a backup of your site’s files and of the database before your start. If you need any assistance, we can try and help walk you through it on the forum, or alternatively feel free to get in touch via the forum email.

Thank you for the Welcome, the assit and simple to follow steps to recover the site !! Will update the password in the config file as suggested. Have used the forgot password option on the password login page but haven’t received the email. God willing will try again once the site is restored. Thank you again

See also this help page on ways for resetting an admin password if you receive no email. The last option is the most fiddly but should give you access in the event that nothing else works. Be sure to replace your user name and desired password in the example shown.

Praise God !! Both sites are back online. Still no success with “reset password” on the login page. Will be working on admin password recovery option you linked to. Thank you so much for you help. A blessing to see the sites again. Have a great weekend
