Why drop Twitter? For some parts of the world, Mastodon has a rather unsavoury reputation, and for some (large…) groups of people, the same Mastodon is considered quite difficult to use.

Whether it’s X, Mastodon, FB, LinkedIn, or anything else, the first question is, What’s the purpose/goal of using it?

If there happens to be a good reason, then the next question is, What measurable value is gained for the effort?

I mentioned elsewhere recently that Txp might have already reached peak mass; it’s just keeping the old users happy now. As a matter of history, those people have always been happiest here in the forum.

Txp’s masto account is a dubious proposition, too, as it sits. If there’s no goal behind it, there’s no point bothering.

But Bici’s title question, which is a good one, goes beyond marketing and growth ambitions. Unlike being in the fedi, staying on X has reached a point where one’s morals are questioned, whether there’s any value to the account or not.

X may still be busy, but that has about as much meaning as a sewer busy with rats, or a turd busy with flies.

Regardless, many still using X also have fedi accounts, or some other alternative, because they know it’s just a matter of time before the sewer is too foul to tolerate anymore, for example.

Of course, the fedi has it’s share of rats and flies, too, as anywhere on the web, but they’re far more manageable. This would segue into an explanation of tech differences but I don’t have the energy for that.
