This was one of the drivers for me to switch to (refurb’d) Mac mini M2 this month, and the money I saved was allocated to some ‘upgrades’, including the Affinity suite.
I’m going back and forth on a series of articles of real world experience of moving from Mojave on a 2012 Mac mini to Ventura on an M2…lots of small changes are adding up to some head-scratching and frustrating workflow changes, but I can’t help thinking it will turn into a bit of a moan…so perhaps that’s my answer.

I’d be interested in reading that. A little less than a year back I moved from a 2013 iMac to a mid tier M1 Max Mac Studio. As I use a 2020 iMac at work I had less of a learning curve to go through.

I have Affinity v1 and v2. But currently still on Mojave on late 2012 iMac. using Serif v.1 only.
Debating on a new iMac (24inch…ugh) or going Mac mini and some 27inch screen, but this latter option seems costly.

I upgraded to Affinity v2 without realising the minimum system requirements. I do not recommend Catalina on older MBP hardware. It’s a hot mess.

+1. I found out the hard way, rolled back to Mojave on my 2012 Mac minis and it was bearable (also has the 32-bit layer for old software).

Yeah, Mojave ran fine on 2012 stock. But Catalina doesn’t.

It’s a hot mess. Indeed! Took me 3 days to recover after I accidentally upgraded to Catalina! It didn’t help that I didn’t hav a bootable copy of Mojave on disk anywhere.

Re: Software discounts and recommendations
I’m not sure how relevant it would be for the folks here but I’d thought I’d share just in case anyone might be interested.
Escape Motions is having a 65% off sale for their upcoming Rebelle 7 realistic painting software. I know the link says 80% but they change the discount on 1 December.
—ETA—
The sale finishes on 13 December.
