New image format(s) in Safari 17
Halfway down the release notes for the upcoming Safari 17, one finds this:
We are pleased to announce that support for JPEG XL is coming to Safari 17.
(contrast this with Google Chrome announcing a few months ago that JPEG XL support would be dropped; it was behind a flag, IIRC)

I am sure someone will be happy – I am looking at you, Mr. Wareham !

I’m back (for a while, now that work has calmed down for a few days). This is indeed good news – JPEG XL is a great format and can of course be part of a nice fallback scheme for browsers that don’t support it (yes, that’s you Chrome, grrrr).
