page weight
I’m trying to get the weight of a particular page and none of the online tools (such as lighthouse) work.
Any advice?

Safari: Open Developer tools > Network Pane.
Load the page.

Thanks so much! We are including this in our current exhibition and we pay the net bandwidth separately so it’s important for us to calculate beforehand so as to allow for the budget.

The Firefox Developper Tools > Network pane “claims” only 17.9Mb are fetched. Hmm. Something being downloaded in Safari but streamed (?) (or similar) with Firefox – my menubar widget shows some constant network activity (down, more than the average).
BTW – Depending on how this is being displayed, make sure it is on a device connected to power and with good cooling. Esp. Firefox spent my MBA fans spinning – much more than Safari.
BTW 2 – interesting experience, but I could not keep watching / playing for long, it quickly triggered some of my dizziness issues :-(.

It’s an artwork which resulted as part of a residency at CERN.
It’s displayed on a 4 year old tower PC using ff. People in our space only spend 5-10’ on it and no one complained, as yet:)
My Safari appears to be showing a 46Mb download but as you say, there is still indications of activity.

Transcoding the 30MB .mp3 to a lower bitrate (128kbps should be fine) will halve its size, and save you some cents.

Aside: given your location & budget, consider Hetzner for serving files in a proto-CDN kind of sense. They’re cheap, reliable and in my experience very fast. You get a lot of punch for your money.
