In my tests, NATURAL LANGUAGE MODE search works rather well, except for very common (English) words like ‘and’, ‘name’ and so on that it fails to match. Should we add some m="natural" search mode to core, or is it too marginal and etc_search will suffice?

+1 from me, that’d be a high quality addition.

Even keeping in mind that a search for too common terms in this mode would return nothing?

Apart from words like and, when, that, etc. Is there a list of those too common terms?

Hi Yiannis, look at the end of this page.

This list looks configurable, but I have no experience therein.

That looks interesting. So, is this option proposed to only be for the front end and not the searches within the txp back end?

This mode needs a FULLTEXT index, which is on (Body, Title) by default. So it would be mainly for frontend.

Oh, that makes it even more interesting. The words currently in the list don’t cause issues for most situations, I’d imagine.

Unless you are searching for things like, “Victoria and Albert Museum”. Although it would still find “Victoria” and “Albert Museum”, even without the “and”, right?

Re: How to get exact search results?

Patch landed in 4.8.8, should be testable few hours later on demo site, via appending m=natural to search URLs.

Re: How to get exact search results?

the slogan yields no results, slogan does. Is that the expected behaviour?

ps. It appears that the results are the same in the current vanilla install.

Demo site is not rebuilt yet, one more hour to wait.

Re: How to get exact search results?

Unfortunately, MATCH ... AGAINST does not seem to work on 4.8.8 demo server at all (whatever mode). Please test somewhere else.
