Anyone using Open Web Analytics?
Has anyone tried OWA? And if so, what do you think of it?
I’m after something super lightweight and self-hosted to report basic usage stats on a site – clicks, bounce rates, etc. Can’t really justify Simple Analytics, as much as I’d like to, as this is a free gig. I’ve used Matomo (aka Piwik) before and I’m happy installing that, but before I take the plunge just wondered if anyone had any experience in OWA as an alternative. I’m a tad bewildered by all the tracking options and wonder if this tool might be overkill.

Re: Anyone using Open Web Analytics?
I use this: http://www.fri-stats.com/
Demo site : http://www.fri-stats.com/stats/
It is interesting to observe how the robots visit the textpattern engine:
No one knows that the site uses statistics

Not heard of that. Interesting how it bypasses some ad blockers. The demo is slow but it might be their server. I’ve downloaded it and will have a look, thanks. Might need to brush up on my Russian first though ;)

Re: Anyone using Open Web Analytics?
The base for collecting statistics is installed on your server.
General visit with a code like this:
<txp:php>include "stats/c.php";</txp:php>
A bot filtering request with the following code:
<script src="data:text/javascript;charset=utf-8;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUoJzxpbWcgc3R5bGU9ImRpc3BsYXk6bm9uZSIgc3JjPSIvZnJpL2MucGhwP3JlZj0nK2VzY2FwZShkb2N1bWVudC5yZWZlcnJlcikrJyZ1cmw9Jytlc2NhcGUoZG9jdW1lbnQuVVJMKSsnJnNjcj0nKygodHlwZW9mKHNjcmVlbik9PSJ1bmRlZmluZWQiKT8iIjpzY3JlZW4ud2lkdGgrIiB4ICIrc2NyZWVuLmhlaWdodCkrJyI+Jyk="></script>
We don’t tell anyone that we are collecting statistics.
No one can find out that we are collecting statistics
I asked the author to make an English version, he is in no hurry.

Re: Anyone using Open Web Analytics?
Did you ever come up with a solution? I really want to get away from Google Analytics, but it’s hard to know which alternative is best/will work best with Textpattern. Any suggestions?
The AI does not hate you, nor does it love you, but you are made out of atoms which it can use for something else.

Re: Anyone using Open Web Analytics?
I switched several years ago to a self hosted Matomo solution. It offers almost the same functionality as GA, is open source and has also a basic mobile app.
They offer also a cloud hosted service, but it is not really cheap.

The market for analytics is quite lively.
For small projects I’d take a look at GoatCounter and Tinylytics.
For bigger projects Matomo or Fathom.

I moved to Plausible: http://plausible.io/
GDPR compliant with no pop-ups needed on your site. Small monthly fee and good overall stats.
That said, my host still has AW Stats running , accessible via cPanel, and that’s still pretty comprehensive, GDPR compliant, and free.

So I have it now working on my 3 small sites. What a breath of fresh air. The UI is pleasant and simple. It’s all I need.
<RANT> I am so tired and pissed at the Goole’s UI for GA and for that matter Gmail (which I am weening off of). Goole are such UI asshats! </RANT>
