Forum: Posting with a (proper) emoji returns error? 🤪

If I post a proper emoji, like a {thumbs-up} <- except the real thing or a smiley I get:

An error was encountered
Error: Unable to create post.

Doing a preview is just fine but posting returns the error.

PS: That’s probably why my post thanking you for the forum updates and Phil for the social network links never showed up. I just though it got swallowed during the transfer period.

Ah, but it seems it does post it (as you can see because it appeared three times – that’s because I experimented with adding the emoji by editing the post. Clicking on those erroneous posts produces another error:

An error was encountered
Error: The post table and topic table seem to be out of sync!.

Re: Forum: Posting with a (proper) emoji returns error? 🤪

Curious, thanks for the report.

I saw your post twice, but if I click the first one I get “Bad Request” so it thinks it’s posted far enough through the process to create the indexes and links but then maybe borks when it tries to insert the content and leaves the database in a half-cocked state. Presumably the insertion isn’t atomic so doesn’t rollback.

This might be to do with a weird issue we uncovered with our customised ‘stop spam’ script, or it could be something to do with the general modifications and something hasn’t transferred properly. Would you mind raising an issue on the forum GitHub repo please to track this? Ta!

I’ll have a look at that now.

Edit: fixed.

Oh, I also had this problem today. Erroneously assumed that emoji were not allowed…

So, are there hidden posts from me as well?

And I just accidentally sent a report instead of a comment 😳

Apologies!

It’s fine, I’ve dealt with it. I’d send you an invoice but the forum email might still be a bit wobbly so who knows if it’ll arrive!

(Just kidding.)
