pull 3rd party feeds to your TXP install / RSS Newsticker

For my next project , which is an online magazine I would like to pull RSS feeds from third parties into dedicated sections of my install.
I used to use aks_rss, which uses Simple Pie.
Don’t know, if both of these are still supported by 4.8.

I did a search in the plugin thread as far back as 2004 with no luck. ( But I have the old plugin )
The latest version of SimplePie 1.3.1 is from 30 Oct 2012 .

Is anybody else interested in such a thing? Is there maybe another solution for this ?
If not, I would be willing to payroll such a thing for the TXP community.

Not a priority right now, but needed for my next project.

Yes, that works nowadays and is probably the best way to go.

That said, I did recently update a very old installation for someone that was using a very ancient plugin simply called SimplePie Plugin. With a few minor changes and the most recent version of SimplePie, it did work with the current txp version.
