Re: The 512 Club
Interesting. I’m sure there are some Txp sites out there that could make the grade. GTMetrix reckons my home page site is 193KB uncompressed and the really simple one I made for Leeds Baby Bank is 289KB. So, potentially, both those qualify.
To be fair, a lot of the sites listed there are rather poor and fit the bill by virtue of having not much content, or no graphics. Of the ones that look at least a bit swish, there are some nice looking sites from my strawpoll. QUnitJS is a lovely looking site. As is Robbie Antenesse’s.
Worth keeping an eye on, and posting any sites we find for consideration, thanks for the heads-up Destry.

Our forum can. In fact probably most of the Textpattern official sites’ pages apart from the homepage itself (due to the animation on there).

Shall we get them up there then? Can’t hurt exposure can it?

Personally, I’d caution against getting too involved with these kinds of things. We arguably already have some perception issues with Textpattern and its relative lack of ready-to-go themes, and if we’re listed alongside other sites that are either text-only or low content quality, that’s a hard association to break.
Our own network of sites are fast because the people behind them give a damn about that sort of stuff. Someone else taking Textpattern and testing the waters with entry-level hosting might not have the same experience, and that could backfire.

Fun thing to play with for a moment (most of my work would qualify), but I don’t see the need to include Textpattern on that list, to echo what Pete notes above.

Perfectly valid in an HTML 5 world where many closing tags are optional (and the opening + closing <head>
, <body>
). I prefer to close my tags, for clarity, as omitting them is not that that will make a huge difference in performance and so on.

In a related vein, the Internet Archive has this tool, Page Weight.
If I’m reading it right, the average weight of a webpage as of October is 2062 KB for desktop and 1892 KB for mobile. A 37% and 41% increase, respectively, since 2016.
You can also select a “lens” for certain sites powered by Drupal, WordPress, etc.
The trends are definitely going the wrong way.

I agree from the standpoint of the Txp project.
But users of Txp could submit and make clear in their descriptions they are running Txp. Easy wins/hits.
Also, a Txp blog post about its low page weight could be strategic, and if anyone made the list at 512, point to the examples.

I added my site for a laugh, and mentioned Txp, but if there’s a better place for the mention I’ll alter it.
I agree about the project pages though. Good points, let’s leave those out.
