Textile links and rel attribute

I’m under the impression that rel="external" is a good way to inform screen readers when a link points away from the current site. But as far as I’m aware that’s not something you can account for with Textile links so the accessibility benefit is wasted… Or, you use regular HTML links, but that’s just crazy. ;)

Is it worth raising a Textile ticket for so our quiet, blond elven friend gocom might work his magic, or is it pretty much not possible?

I’d much prefer that the title feature of Textile links ("link(title)":url) worked as a rel feature instead ("link(rel)":url). Then if you needed a title pop up in those rare cases, just use a regular HTML link. In our new age of mobile, this seems like a better way for Textile links to work, no? Turn it around.

I guess there’s, what, backwards compat concern? Pfft! ;)

Re: Textile links and rel attribute

A short tag may be more flexible for those.
