Forum favicon.ico

Hi,

Sorry I have 3 years of catching up to do ;)

The favicon.ico on this forum has a white background, there are hammer and sickle .ico images that have a transparent background.

I’m using Firefox Developer Edition, in dark mode, and the .ico just looks awkward.

Edit: Here you go ->

Re: Forum favicon.ico

The hammer/sickle has no contrast on dark backgrounds when transparency is used – hence why I made the decision to keep the white background for now.

If browsers all finally decide on a consistent way to provide favicons that respect light/dark modes (from what I have read they all have their own workarounds right now) then I’ll revisit.

Re: Forum favicon.ico

Phil,

I appreciate the explanation, and I admire you for sticking to your guns as far as standards you want to adhere to. Which is why the whole of Textpattern looks very polished, I’m very impressed.

I’m setting up a new site tonight, using it as a way to get back motor movements, wait till you get to my age. I went ahead and replaced the favicon.ico in each of the admin themes in the newly installed Textpattern 4.8.4.

– 4.8.4 default

– 4.8.4 transparent

The TXP 4.8.4 admin interface is flying on DreamHost, running PHP 7.4 FastCGI.

Kudos for the light bulb in the upper right hand corner, my eyes thank you sir.

Re: Forum favicon.ico

I don’t pay much attention to .ico files, I’m realizing, but based on the examples Bert shared in this thread, I like the transparent background much better. Sure, a little contrast is lost around the head of the hammer, but not so much that the mark is unrecognizable or even looks bad. On the contrary, I think it looks better in the dark case, and clearly shows design awareness, as opposed to something seemingly forgot about.

Speaking of design awareness, Bert, your TV’s white fruit of the looms is showing here in dark mode and ‘just looks awkward’.

You got me there, cause I don’t see where to switch themes inside this forum.

Re: Forum favicon.ico

The site theme adheres to the OS-level dark/light mode preference. I may add a manual toggle at some point.

Oh, ok.

On another note, when I view this forum on my phone, images embedded in posts don’t show.

Is this a feature?
