Success! I wrapped the page contents, apart from the site heading, in cbe_frontauth_protect with a login form as the ELSE option.

I must say that Textpattern has a very low swearing to output ratio compared with a lot of other software. You have done well!

Just a heads-up to check what appears in the feed too.

Re: Password protection

Thanks, Yiannis,
I don’t need the feeds. If I just remove the feed-link lines, will that block that hole?

Bruce: on the Sections panel, for each (affected/relevant) section uncheck the Syndicate articles? item.

Thank you. That made me smile.

We do strive to make Textpattern as consistent and logical as possible, favouring convention over configuration wherever possible. If you do stumble across anything that makes you scratch your head too much, please ask around in the forums or raise an issue and we’ll see what can be done about it.

Just deleting the link, may stop some people from discovering your feeds, but not those who may be looking for them.

If you go to Admin>preferences>Feeds, you can use excerpts only. Alternatively, if the protected articles belong to sections that do not offer any public content, you can go to Presentation>Sections, click on the section and prevent them from syndicating any content.

Re: Password protection

Progress is happening. The site is now “live” and no longer just living on my Raspberry Pi. Transfer was fairly seamless.

The Point intranet

But now I have to sort out user roles. It looks like there is currently no option in a standard install to create users that can log in but have no access to the back end.

Smd_user_manager might solve the problem but reading the forums suggests that installing it in a current site might also ruin my swearing/output figures.

Any suggestions for a simple way of creating users with no admin access?

Re: Password protection

cbe_frontauth mentioned in this thread should do it but the auto redirect might need tweeking. Also check Bloke’s post.

Re: Password protection

Hi Yiannis,
I have cbe_frontauth installed, patched, and running well.

But how do I create a user that can log in but has no admin access?

Re: Password protection

Hi Bruce,
I also need this kind of only-log-in-role, but I solve it by using the “Freelancer” – which I never need – who in any way only could write own articles.
With smd_user_manager you could deactivate tab.content and/or list (I didn’t check that), so he can log in but will not see anything on the admin side.
Michael

EDIT: And I have cbe_frontath and smd_user_manager together in one install, without any interference.

Re: Password protection

That works. I have rah_privileges installed and used it to switch off all the admin functions for freelancer. Accessing the admin area using that log-in shows a message saying “Restricted area” and no visible tabs apart from the view site tab.

That should give enough security. Thanks.

Re: Password protection

I really should patch smd_user_manager. It’s been on my to-do list for ages.
