Comment Modules

I just installed the newest (4.82) Textpattern on my local hard drive to test it out and installation went very smoothly. I wrote a test article, even added an image and posted it to the site again, with no problem. I then noticed that there are two comments module below the article. Did I miss a setting somewhere or should there be two modules there, and if so why?

Hi and welcome to Textpattern.

The doubling usually comes about because of the way the comments are set to display in your template that clashes with a legacy setting in Admin>Preferences. In the Comments area of the Preferences panel, look for Automatically append comments to articles? and turn it off.

It should be off by default, but sounds like it’s on for some reason, which can account for the double posting of comments.

Yep, that fixed it. Thanks for your quick response. One other question and perhaps this does not belong on this thread…How can I place a corder around the comment module that is displayed so that it sticks out more. I assume this would be done in a css file?

yes you need to apply some css modifications to achieve the styling you wish

Thanks bici…where are the css files? I haven’t been able to find them. Perhaps you can also tell me how to add a menu item next to Home/Articles in the navigation banner?

css file can either be used under the Admin interface Presentation / Styles .

Or you can use an external file and you would need to point to it from a Miscellaneous Form called for example Meta_head

Thanks again bici for your response. While I really like this CMS, I having quite a bit of trouble figuring out how to make changes/additions. I guess I need more testing and reading documentation.

Hi and welcome to txp.
Whatever you need to change regarding db calls, layout, and styles, is under the presentation tab (pages, forms, and css).

Do feel free to ask for any clarifications you may need. There is always someone around here who will be able to help.

Try Textpattern in two minutes which gives an overview of how things fit together, with plenty of links to docs for further reading.

I’m trying to follow the tutorial and I have reached the setting up the pages portion and this is where I am running into trouble. The way I read it is that I am supposed to change the archive and default pages with the code that is in the pages folder of the zip file I have downloaded.

The version of textpattern that I am using for this tutorial is 4.81 (much different than the one in the tutorial) and the pages included in the 4.81 version are archive, default, error_default. I replaced the code in the archive and default pages with the code in the zip file, and since there is no home page, I added the code from the zip file into a new home page. I then went back to the sections page and changed the default page to point to the home page, the blog page to point to the archive page and left the rest of them to point to the default page.

What is displayed after all that is the three links and nothing else except the footer. I have done this twice with the same result. Could one of you refer to the tutorial and show/tell me where I went wrong? Thanks.

Apologies. Yes that tutorial is quite old but i think it should work for helping one understand 4.8.1

all the templates sources that i know of are for older versions of TxP. Perhaps others may know of other templates.

NOTE: now that i think about it how does one output our Textpattern site as code for its various Sections Forms Pages Styles ??
