Hi,
I run TxP 4.7.1 in a website. Currently I am forced back to the login page everytime I try to change to a new page in the TxP admin site which makes any changes to the website impossible to perform.

Any thoughts?

/Alex

Re: Login

Has this just started happening? If so, what’s changed at your hosting and/or your end? That could be one or more of a few things:

  • Are you using a browser that prevents or restricts cookies being set and/or updated?
  • Are you using an account that’s signed in elsewhere, whether it’s another browser or device?
  • Has your web host made any changes to their security setup?
  • What plugins are you using, if any?

If I was in your position, this is what I’d try to triage:

  • Check your browser is OK with cookies being set from first-person sites.
  • Try another browser to see if it’s restricted to that browser.
  • Create a new user with the same privileges as your existing user that’s causing problems, try logging in as that new user (i.e. you’re the only person logged in).

Aside: there were a bunch of enhancements and bug fixes in 4.7.2 and 4.7.3, you should look into upgrading to 4.7.3 (or newer) if you can.

Re: Login

Thx for the prompt reply.

It has happened recently I believe although I do not update or make changes to the site that often.

The host has apparently upgraded the PHP version. I am able to downgrade to version 7.4 through to 7.2. Which would be more appropriate?

This is likely the issue. PHP 7.4 is the latest release, and support for it was added in Textpattern 4.8. Switch to PHP 7.3 and you should find the issue goes away. There are performance gains in PHP 7.4, so as and when you can bump your site to Textpattern 4.8 or newer, you can safely switch to PHP 7.4.
