I just got booked for a meeting at 2pm so I wouldn’t be back on time, I’ll have to stick with 4pm Thursday this time everyone, hope you can all make it, if not and if there’s demand for this, I’d be happy to do another one in a month to suit different timezones :)

Here’s the link on YouTube guys! I think and hope that when it goes live you can join in via Google Hangouts just with the link..

Third time lucky, the bad news is that it looks like they’ve already taken away the ‘quick hangouts’ option that allowed people to join in the video, it’s not meant to go until 1st August, so either I can’t find it or I’m in the new live video editor already which isn’t ideal.. It still might work to have other people on video but I won’t know until it goes live, but the live chat works at least so we can give it a go and come in on the live chat.. just my mug will be on the other side lol :D

A lot of the Linux YouTubers use Zoom which allows 40 minute chats of 100 people for free. And then the host streams that with OBS.
Examples: Big Daddy Linux, DistroTube
And a setup guide: How to: Add Zoom video conferencing to OBS for livestreaming

I don’t finish work until 4:30pm GMT +1 so it’ll be more likely 5:30pm-6:00pm GMT +1 before I’ll be able to make it.

The old Joyent web server was fully decommissioned recently-ish, which marks the end of that hosting era for Textpattern. We have also reached the end of the first year of our DigitalOcean hosting and I’m looking at getting that renewed, too. When I know if we’re on DO for another year (comms are in progress) then we can spec out what infrastructure can be assigned for this. I am mindful that we have to balance everyday services (forum, main site, backups, reporting endpoints and so on) with short-term things (hosted video conferencing, live chat and so on) where the resource use is comparatively higher. Platforms like Rocket.Chat and Jitsi look great, but there’s a bit more of an on-ramp to get them working correctly.

Not at all Pete you have your hands full! The live chat on YouTube went really well so I’ll use that format the next time too, and we can use google hangouts separately if we want to too. 🙂 Best of luck with all the renewals!
