Re: Server migration - status, discussion

Is this new site hosted on Digital Ocean like the main .com site? if so why no footer announcing the host?

Yes — all the Textpattern sites are migrating to the DigitalOcean server infrastructure. The txpmag.com site has been largely untouched since the most recent issue, so consider the footer a to-do item.

Re: Server migration - status, discussion

All is working well for me, already. Great!

I’ve watched on my Android phone that Netguard (a firewall/VPN) showed attempts to connect to the txpmag.com domain, on port 80 I think cause I lazily typed just the domain. When I approved these connection requests their entries changed to textpattern.com, while the browser’s URL field displayed the expected txpmag.com. Just out of interest: How’s that happening, please, and why?

It’s possible your firewall is following links. Some images on txpmag.com link to textpattern.com, and your firewall might pre-fetch details about linked sites.

I hoped I witnessed some htaccess wizardry to learn :)

I would say it’s probably more to do with your firewall and performance, really.

There are no assets loaded on txpmag.com that originate from textpattern.com (as far as I can see, anyway), so I would say it’s all on you.

You are welcome to peruse the Nginx configurations for the new server if you’re curious — no Apache used anywhere: github.com/textpattern/server-config

Re: Server migration - status, discussion

Still here, still working on migration things — please note there’s an RPC language bug that’s appeared recently, and if you manage legacy Textpattern installations before 4.7.0, it would be worth your time reading about it.

Re: Server migration - status, discussion

Welcome aboard the migrated, TLS’d, 2018 remix of rpc.textpattern.com:

Legacy (pre-4.7) pophelp and language translations are handled by this server. If you happen to have a pre-4.7 installation available and are able to take the pophelp for a spin, that would be greatly appreciated.

Please report any bugs or oddities here, except the RPC language bug because we know about that one.

Thank you for flying Textpattern, enjoy the ride.

All seems to work just fine from an old and hacked 4.4.1 version. Thanks so much for all your work Pete!

Thanks for the tests, colak — appreciated! I must defer credit to jakob for the technical overhaul on rpc.textpattern.com, there was a substantial amount of work behind the scenes on modernising the site.

One additional bug found, and will be squashed in the coming days following testing: there are hard-coded references to the http:// flavour of textpattern.com that check for updates in some legacy versions, and we need to be able to work around those while offering https:// on everything else (pophelp, search, admin-side etc). So, for now, rpc.textpattern.com is both http and https until I can test and implement the required fixes.

Thank you for your patience.

Re: Server migration - status, discussion

I gave a (disused) TXP 4.6 on localhost a quick spin. Pophelp works fine, as far as I can tell. I see the “Update language” issue you flagged in the other thread, though. Everything else (admin side and front end) work as expected.

Server is set to local time (JCT, UTC-9).
