Friday, August 31st 19:05 – 1x chilled Asahi beer for me

Update: We’re running a little behind schedule, so work will continue into Friday evening. Please stay tuned.

But but did you have the opportunity to enjoy that chilled Asahi? (and how is the migration going at ~11am UTC, september 1?)

Found a breaking snag late yesterday (search not working), and tired eyes couldn’t fix it. Sanity check from etc and a reasonable night of sleep means it’ll probably happen later today.

In related news, jakob has overhauled and fixed misbehaviour on the current textpattern.org, and it’s likely that will be updated today to reflect his changes.

PS: Asahi on hold, perhaps until this whole migration and overhaul is complete.

Let’s do the final .com move on Monday. I still have some minor work to do in the codebase and won’t have much time this weekend.

Sounds good. I’ll focus on .org this afternoon.

Great. I’ll compile a new version of smd_thumbnail with the patch fix in it and investigate the form None issue on Monday. I also need to investigate why it won’t let me upload a new version of the theme (possibly a permissions issue on server).

Permissions look fine here – let’s reconvene Monday.

If you want me to take a look just send me some login credentials, though I won’t have much spare time until Monday.

Thanks etc — I’m going to wrap up the .org migration today first, then I’ll see if I can debug without affecting philwareham’s work.

Re: Server migration - status, discussion

I’m very pleased to say Textpattern Resources (textpattern.org) is up-to-date. Thanks to some serious behind-the-scenes overhauling from jakob and philwareham, it’s running on a new codebase on the new server and all known theme quirks have been resolved.

Please report any quirks or issues in this thread.

Re: Server migration - status, discussion

Final touches are being made to textpattern.com for a migration today. I will update OP after this post, and send a tweet out that .com will be a bit twitchy for a few hours as DNS updates take place.

Gunning for a 1600UTC start, should be done by 1800UTC.

  • it’s now running Textpattern 4.7.1 on Nginx 1.15 and PHP 7.2;
  • jakob and philwareham fixed the themes and plugins;
  • it no longer has the obnoxious errors about missing fonts;
  • it works, and is Pretty Quick Now©;

Re: Server migration - status, discussion

Alright, textpattern.com migration is well underway.

25 minutes into the migration:

  • new SSL is in place;
  • site has migrated to new server;
  • search function works as expected;
  • enabled IPv6 (DNS pending);

To do:

  • some minor theme changes to point to new live site;
  • probably some other stuff that I haven’t found yet;

It’s going smoothly so far.

Migrating away from Joyent. The server we were running on at Joyent is running an EOL’d version of Solaris and was not practically capable of current web server best practice.

When the textpattern.com site goes live for you, you’ll see the new web host in the bottom right corner…I don’t want to spoil the surprise!
