Textpattern users meet up - remote video & text chat conference

I keep thinking about organising a Textpattern users teleconference (sound and/or video, plus text chatter).

We have the technology to do it — open source, no cost, I can build a server quickly and securely — but is there interest?

Most likely a Saturday, drop in and drop out as you see fit, no cost to attend, internet connection required, low to zero travel costs.

Let’s say we aim for the first one in autumn/fall and another in spring.

RSVP — [X] all that apply — no obligation, you can change your mind.

[ ] Yes, I am interested
[ ] No, this is not for me
[ ] I can test the technology and infrastructure beforehand
[ ] I can host a local event for interested users in the area
[ ] I am enthusiastic about this idea!

I’ve been increasingly against the idea of air travel for conferences (as one example) for enviro/climate reasons. And for international conferences especially it seems silly when they can be had remotely. So I think it’s a great idea.

I’d even say these could become much more regular than twice a year, once we try one and get the tech/process in place. Why not monthly? That would make more opps for people to participate if they had to miss one.

You could have a light agenda of talking points posted ahead of each one so people knew what was to come and whether to schedule around it.

And maybe some minutes written up after each one as a blog post.

And now I’m thinking why not have a Txp podcast, hosted by Pete, but that is something different in any case.

Great idea, what about format of communication? Someone speaks\present, other listen? I’ll be happy to be part of the conference but with my english i’m only a listener :)
