Parse error showing - site down

Hello when I try to open my site irishletter.com now I get this error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘yield’ (T_YIELD), expecting ‘(’ in /homepages/30/d343166253/htdocs/irishletter/textpattern/publish/taghandlers.php on line 322
I have seen some other questions about this on the forum but they are several years old so I’m not sure any of the answers there would be currently useful.
Can you advise on how to get my site up again?
Thanks
Bob

Re: Parse error showing - site down

Hi Bob, this looks like a very old error to me, and I think that it might be a compatibility issue between your server and the txp version you are using.

What textpattern version are you using?

Re: Parse error showing - site down

from the look of the log on screen it might be a few versions ago.

P.S. it would be cool to have the version of Textpattern displayed as a footer on the login screen…

but probably not possible, but worth asking.

Re: Parse error showing - site down

Hi Bob, That’s probably the site we did all those years back? Colak’s correct: your host has updated PHP and as the older version of Textpattern and the newer version of PHP both have a command called yield, it produces that conflict. A site update solves that but I’d need to check if that has any other implications (it was quite a while ago so I can’t remember off hand).

If you’d like me to take a look, send me an email pls. I don’t have your login details anymore and it would be a good idea to take a backup before upgrading.

Looks like 4.4.* to me.

That may be right. If no-one else has worked on the site since I did back in 2013, then it is probably txp 4.4.1 according to my prototype site.

There are a bunch of ways to check a Textpattern’s version number. None of these are secret, so I’m not breaking any rules:

  • check the generator tag in the RSS/Atom XML (can be faked with a bit of knowhow)
  • look at textpattern/checksums.txt and cross-check with releases (exact match, though the file can be removed)
  • query the jQuery version (narrows it down to a range or releases)
  • check for HISTORY.txt (can be faked)

It’s whack-a-mole to an extent, if you close down one avenue the others will still work, and there’s no way that I know of to completely disguise what version you’re running.

Jakob – yes this is an old version. I had really put this site aside for quite a long time and only decided to take another look at it recently. Honestly, I can’t even tell from looking in my admin what version this is. If you can advise that’s great.
