The Road Ahead
Hi there,
as there have been no updates on TXP development on the blog or down here for a while, I thought I’d just pop in and ask how everybody’s doing and what’s currently happening.
Before the inevitable summer break will distract all of us ;~}
Cheers,

Re: The Road Ahead
Hello,
Lots going on. Bugs being fixed, features being added (you can check the History file on GitHub to see what’s done.
We really ought to get better at adding entries to the blog! In fact, our new website is due to go live in the next few weeks, so we may have the impetus to do just that.
4.7.0 is shaping up. Looking to release it later in the year.

Re: The Road Ahead
Hi Bloke,
that is, in fact, a lot, great!
Re the point
Changed: Deprecated support for uploading .swf files via Images panel (support will be removed entirely at Textpattern 4.8.0).
I didn’t even know swf was allowed : ) If vector formats were actually possible, is it not an option to allow svg instead? I thing the argument against it was previews slowing down performance and lack of thumbnails, which was possibly the same for swf, though. Personally, I wouldn’t mind using default/dummy thumbnails for svg in list view, if that allowed me adding them via the images panel, instead of going detours via the files panel …
And yes, more blog posts would be cool, although I appreciate that there’s little time for ‘promotion’ when there’s lots of work to get done. (As the blog posts tend to be elaborate and well crafted, I wouldn’t mind the occasional brief [like twitter-brief] but informative post …)

And it’s getting better. Theme support is in testing :-) Just considering the best way to extend it to the file system too.

We kept it quiet, since .swf
is a crappy format.

On our radar maybe for some time in the future. Probably when a benevolent coder comes along and offers to refactor our thumbnail generation class. The lack of SVG thumbnails and performance hit are both big issues to solve before this feature can hit core.

If I ever happen to come by a benevolent coder, I’ll drag him over .–)

Re: The Road Ahead
I doubt user SVG uploads (via images panel) will ever make it into Textpattern, sorry.
If you must, you can upload SVG files via the Files panel and use URL paths, i.e. <img src="/files/example.svg">

Re: The Road Ahead
Good resource about SVG. Thanks, Phil.
In that case, let’s close issue #856, cite some quotes from that article to back up the decision (plus a link to it) and be done with it.
EDIT: Closed issue #856.

Ups! Once you read that, it’s actually quite obvious that SVG has major security flaws.
Agreed.

Short answer: SVG files are extremely unsecure.
