According to my experiences, HawkHost might be the cause of the problem :)
In bad weather I never leave home without wet_plugout, smd_where_used and adi_form_links

There do seem to be numerous htaccess queries in connection with Litespeed, though.
So apparently you are correct. The link above gives some .htaccess lines that will disable the caching.
