There seems to be a trend in the past 3-4 years on static site generators. Pelican might be of interest.

I might try one at some point, when the right personal project comes along. Whaleen suggested Prose to me a while back.

As long as you are aware of the limits of static site generators (we have databases for a reason).
Jekyll being a prime example I use where you have to rethink CMS paradigms such as article categories and site searching. It can be done, but it’s not straightforward.

i tried using Jekyll and Kirby once for a small semi-personal website for a friend such as to make it easy to add info. I gave up and moved him to a simple TxP site. I found them a pain to work with. it takes more time than it was worth.
On the other hand I believe the Joyent website is one big Kirby file‑based website.
