Re: Textpattern UK user group meet up: autumn 2016
OK. Update time.
Let’s shoot for November 5th, 2016 near Phil in Hampshire. This give Phil relative parental flexibility, and everyone else a pin to stick in a map. I’ll update OP accordingly.

Re: Textpattern UK user group meet up: autumn 2016
Tickets still available for this prestigious event, this coming weekend :-)
If anyone would like us to be available via the wonders of the Interweb for over-the-wire Q&A or just to catch up, please let us know your preferred method of comms (Skype / FaceTime / IM / IRC, etc) and how we can get hold of you via your chosen method. We’ll try and find time and a decent WiFi signal (might hijack Phil’s swanky new office!) so we can be available during the day.
As I’m not the most up-to-date on group communication software, if anyone has any suggestions on how we might involve wider participation in a more structured manner on Saturday, please let us know. We’ll try and get the necessary software installed in readiness, and advertise how to get hold of us, even if it’s just an IRC room or something.

I keep coming back to the idea of a maintained IRC server, but then we might as well have a thread here for longevity/search reasons. The Slack experiment kinda faded away, so I’m not convinced another barrier to entry will yield results.

I’m helping a young NGO here to set up a constitution focusing on Open source software. Maybe I’ll manage to persuade them to raise funding so as to have a txp meeting in this side of the world.

Yes the meeting took place yesterday, 4.7 roadmap plans were formulated amongst other discussions. It was good. No doubt a blog post will follow.

Re: Textpattern UK user group meet up: autumn 2016
To update everyone subscribed to this thread: it’s been a few weeks since Stef, Phil and I met for the autumn 2016 Textpattern user group meeting. Please consider this an unofficial field report and not a replacement for a textpattern.com blog posting.
At the 2015 meet up, Textpatern 4.5.7 was the production release. A lot of stuff relating to 4.6.0 was discussed and a roadmap was produced as a result. For the 2016 meet up, 4.6.2 was the latest and greatest, and our discussions focussed on the upcoming 4.7.0 release.
Stef and I slummed it in a local budget hotel, and used as much free wifi as we dare. There was some beer, too. Phil stopped by and bought us lunch (thanks, Phil!), and we took over his new work office for the afternoon.
Phil and Stef discussed various items in the GitHub issues, assigned and changed some milestones, and overall progress was made. There seemed to be less urgency this year, likely because the monumental changes between 4.5 and 4.6 were in the past. Textpattern 4.7 is looking like it will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, and building on the hard work put into 4.6.
It’s very encouraging to see almost daily commits to Textpattern core in recent months, and it’s even more amazing to see the issues queue chipped away in preparation for the Textpattern 4.7 release. The issues tagged for Textpattern are here and as I write this 29 are open, while 15 have been closed.
If you can spare a few minutes, please take a look at that list and check if there’s anything you can help or assist with.
As a final point, as the person who’s arranged a couple of user group meetings, I’m scoping out the feasibility of doing the next one remotely, perhaps via IRC or some form of video conference. I’ll be gathering opinions in this thread, so please throw your 2c in if you have anything to say.
